Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, MD’s Home Repair Program is an extension of our mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Habitat’s Home Repair Program partners with local homeowners who need assistance completing necessary repairs or modifications to their homes. Each project is unique to the needs of the homeowner and helps families maintain and stay safe in their own homes by addressing necessary health, safety, and accessibility modifications.

Eligibility for Habitat Home Repairs program

  • Applicant(s) must be a Frederick County homeowner
  • Home must be the primary residence of applicant(s)
  • Applicants must plan on living in the home for at least three years after completion of repairs
  • Applicant(s) must have a need for repairs that they cannot complete themselves (physically or financially)
  • Applicant(s) must have a household income below 80% of Frederick County’s area median income (AMI)

What We Can Do

Exterior Safety Repairs

  • Repair or replace broken windows, siding, trim, or gutters
  • Caulk around exterior doors and windows
  • Install weather stripping around exterior doors
  • Repair or replace roofs, decks, and porches

Interior Safety Repairs

  • Minor plumbing and electrical work
  • Flooring and drywall repair or patches
  • Carpentry repairs, including interior stairs, door frames, and transitions in floors.

Accessibility Modifications

  • Install ADA-compliant toilets
  • Add aging-in-place enhancements such as:
    • Grab bars
    • Additional handrails on interior or exterior staircases
    • Wheelchair ramps
    • Stairlifts
    • Walk-in showers.

Repairs are based on level or priority of need. 

What We Can’t Do

  • Cosmetic upgrades
  • Repairs that are not critical to health or safety
  • Remodeling
  • Construction of housing additions

We are actively accepting applications! The Habitat Home Repair Program provides repairs and/or modifications for individuals to remain safely in their homes. These services are offered at no cost to the homeowner.

Our work focuses on addressing unsafe conditions in the home, such as trip hazards, leaks, and roofing concerns, as well as installing grab bars or other accessibility and mobility modifications. Cosmetic repairs and/or requests are not accepted. 

Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County is able to provide this program through grants, municipal support and private donations. Our goal is to serve as many homeowners in the community as possible while funding is available.
