Transforming an existing 2-bedroom, 1-bath house into a 3-bedroom, 2-bath affordable home.
Affordable homeownership doesn’t always start with an empty lot.
The Poinsett Lane Project is Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County’s newest homeownership project in West Frederick. The property, including an existing 2-bedroom, 1-bath home, was generously donated to Habitat Frederick and will now be transformed into a 3-bedroom, 2-bath affordable home for a future Habitat homeowner.
Work officially began on October 6, 2026, when our construction team and volunteers started the gutting process. Over the coming months, the home will undergo a full renovation from the inside out. By the time the project is complete, it will look and feel like a new home.
Projects like Poinsett Lane reflect an important part of how Habitat Frederick creates affordable homeownership opportunities in our community. Habitat does not always begin with vacant land and new construction. As available land in Frederick County becomes increasingly scarce and expensive, donated homes and properties can provide another path to creating safe, affordable places for local families to call home.
This approach can take many forms. Sometimes Habitat renovates an existing structure. Sometimes we combine renovation with new construction, as we have at our West All Saints Street project. What remains the same is the goal: creating affordable homeownership opportunities for qualified local families.
The Poinsett Lane home is projected to be completed in early 2027, creating a new affordable homeownership opportunity for a future Habitat homeowner(s)!
