Established in 1993 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County Maryland helps families in need achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance that comes with affordable homeownership, a key component. in establishing and maintaining strong and stable communities. Since our founding, Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, MD has constructed or revitalized 48 homes through our leadership and the efforts of more than 4,500 volunteers. Throughout this process, we provide training to partner families and individuals in budgeting, home repair, safety, and maintenance.
In line with our “hand up, not a handout” philosophy, Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, MD builds and/or renovates houses and sells them to Habitat-qualified, first-time homebuyers. We work as partners with our homeowners to ensure they receive an affordable mortgage, attend homeowner classes, and put in “sweat equity” on their homes. We also work with homeowners who need critical safety repairs and/or modifications to be able to safely stay in their homes.
Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, MD collaborates with residents of Frederick County falling within the 30% to 80% range of the Average Median Income (AMI) and cannot qualify for a traditional mortgage or are unable to complete home repairs without assistance. Wherever there is a local need, Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, MD homes and home repairs are found in communities such as Brunswick, Buckeystown, the City of Frederick, Emmitsburg, Middletown, Thurmont and Walkersville, to name a few.
