Linganore Student’s Graduation Project Raises Money for Habitat

Frederick -- Linganore High student Katie Brois put together a youth concert featuring eight local youth bands as her graduation project. The recent event at the Mt. Airy Fireman’s Activity Center raised $1250 for Habitat for Humanity. “Katie wanted to do something different for her project,” said Dee Danmeyer, executive director of Frederick County Habitat, “so she got various area youth bands to play for an hour each then donating the admission fees to a worthy cause.”

Katie got contributions of food and prizes from over a dozen local merchants. Top donation was an $800 Fender Super Stratocaster electric guitar. Other donations included a custom skateboard, car detailings, a car wash, various cosmetic services and foods and beverages. To help, the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company reduced the rental fee on its hall.

The bands that performed were A Frail Winter Rose, The Fallen Lie, JamesSlay/Kelly, Karmella’s Game, Something Pure, Meet Me at the Vertigo, The Gorgeous and Remaking Eden. Chris Raines of the band Kick Start provided the sound support.
